Hello!
I'm Brook Mesenbrink.

My greatest passions are making art and helping others to make art!
Our culture believes that only those with special, magical talents can become artists or possess creativity.
“I can’t even draw a stick figure,” is a common belief that has caused artist-block and prevented so many from acquiring the skills and techniques needed to be inherently creative.

Yes! Making art starts with developing skills and techniques, just like learning how to write, play an instrument or ride a bike!
Art can be learned and enjoyed by everyone!

MY STORY
In high school, I developed a love for architecture, then discovered drawing, painting, art history, illustration and graphic design in college. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration and Graphic Design in 2000 from Boise State University and worked in the field very briefly before having my first and only child. Nurturing the development of my son became my new passion and priority. Being a part of the process of a living "work in progress", other than myself, brought the greatest joy! When he started school in 2006, I discovered another love: teaching art to children. Helping them succeed at the skill of art making was thrilling to me. While teaching students how to draw, I realized there was a misbelief about art and lack of teaching effective techniques at the basic level, especially learning how to draw from observation, which left students feeling inadequate and frustrated. So I set out to develop a sequential curriculum that not only lays the foundation for hand-eye coordination, but builds on the elements of art and principles of design. As students progress through the lessons they will find their art skills growing, enabling them to express their creative voice.
