Albrecht Durer

Albrecht Durer was known for creating his own style of art that was highly realistic because he drew from careful observation and did not follow the rules established by the church. He made engraving and woodblock prints a popular fine art medium by improving the technique with fine texture lines to show light and dark values. He elevated the status of artists and was one of the first to paint a self portrait as a devotional painting.
