Kapa the Little Capuchin
Written and Illustrated by Analese Boyd Helix High School Senior, class of 2017 |
For her high school senior project, Analese Boyd took on the monumental task of writing and illustrating a short story based on a real animal, its environment and behaviors. It also had to be suitable for preschool children. Before this project, Analese would not consider herself an artist, but she allowed her passion for children and animals to motivate her to accomplish something she’s never done before. Under my guidance as her official mentor, she learned how to write a story that solved a problem, contained distinct characters, a plot, theme and conflict. She learned how to research, collected images, draw from observation, make a storyboard, create the final illustrations, upload the images onto the book creation website and layout the pages for print. The result is a 15 page full color illustrated book about a capuchin monkey, named Kapa, who proves to his family that he’s capable of amazing things when he saves his siblings from a deadly snake. This heart-warming story will inspire readers of any age to that you can do anything you set your mind to do. This book can be purchased at Blurb.com.
